About James

Based in Galway and available nationwide, James Colohan is a highly experienced wedding musician with an in-depth understanding of how live music fits seamlessly into every part of a wedding day.

James has spent many years working at the core of the Irish wedding industry, performing as a member of a number of established wedding bands throughout the country. These bands have received industry recognition, including Wedding Band of the Year nominations and regional awards such as Brides of Limerick Band of the Year. Through this work, James has performed at hundreds of weddings and has an instinctive understanding of timing, atmosphere, and the expectations of couples and venues alike.

Alongside band work, James has accompanied countless wedding singers over the years — many of whom prospective couples may already be familiar with. He has performed with award-winning singers, including recipients of Best Wedding Singer in Ireland and Church Singer of the Year. This experience has earned him a strong reputation as a dependable and musical collaborator, as well as a “musician’s musician”, particularly noted for his exceptional guitar playing.

James has been playing guitar for over 25 years, with vocal experience spanning almost as long. His style is defined by feel, control, and attention to detail — qualities that are especially important in ceremony and acoustic settings. In addition to weddings, James has toured internationally with various bands and performs over 200 live shows each year, bringing a level of consistency and professionalism that couples can rely on.

Outside of weddings, James also writes and releases original music under his own project, COLOHAN, balancing creative work with a busy live performance schedule.
